Please note that although the last two miles of the road are regularly maintained, the road is unpaved and is steep and winding. Please remember that you must share the road with hikers and bikers and please be courteous to all private landowners by obeying all posted signs.

From November 1st to May 1st a 4 wheel drive vehicle or a two wheel drive with chains is required to be on the last two miles of the road. If you do not have a 4 wheel drive or chains please be sure to contact shuttle companies to arrange transport. Colorado State Patrol and Routt County Sherriff’s office will ticket and the fine is serious for getting stuck on the road or causing an accident if the vehicle does not have the required equipment. Please be courteous to others and obey by all traffic laws. It is a danger to yourself and to others to be on the road if you are not prepared.
